PS4 and Xbox One owners are hyped for Resident Evil: Origins Collection

Capcom has revealed that pre-orders for the upcoming Resident Evil: Origins Collection on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One have surpassed the company’s expectations.

The bundle is due out in January 2016 for £24.99 and packages the Resident Evil HD Remaster and Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster together on a single disc. Capcom remastered the Resident Evil remake, originally released on Nintendo GameCube in 2002, on current and last-generation consoles earlier this year, with Zero due to get the HD treatment at some point in the New Year.

"We are very happy regarding the Resident Evil Origins Collection pre-order numbers – they are performing above our expectations," said Capcom’s Marketing Director, Antoine Molant, during a chat with MCV. "While most of the pre-order efforts on the publisher side are usually focused around new, triple-A releases, this confirms to us that ultimately it is mostly driven by players. If you have a game they want to play, regardless of the price point, whether it is a brand new game or a remaster, the players will create the demand."

This year’s digital release of Resident Evil HD Remaster performed well above expectations, selling one million copies globally to date in addition to giving Sony its biggest opening day sales in PlayStation Network history since the service launched in 2006.  Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster is due out on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 via digital download at some point early next year, presumably prior to the release of the Origins Collection. Capcom also has the squad-based shooter Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps in the pipeline as a PS4-exclusive.

Perhaps the most anticipated project from the Japanese software giant, however, is the full-blown remake of 1998’s Resident Evil 2 for current-generation consoles. The series also celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2016, so it’s a great time to be a fan of the venerable survival horror series, as Capcom surely has a few surprises tucked up its sleeves to mark the occasion.
