PS4 beaten by Xbox One in Black Friday sales — report

According to research firm InfoScout, the Xbox One managed to beat PlayStation 4 during the lucrative Black Friday sales period in North America last week.

Microsoft’s next-generation console ate up 53 percent of all console sales during the sale, while PS4 accounted for a not-too-shabby 31 percent.

Bringing up the rear is the Xbox 360 with nine percent, with Wii U and PlayStation 3 fighting over the scraps at six and one percent, respectively. Due to the 360’s performance, Microsoft technically took 62 percent in overall sales during Black Friday.

InfoScout’s data comes from 180,000 participants, who were incentivized to take snapshots of their receipts from stores including Target, Walmart, BestBuy, RadioShack, and GameStop.

In terms of target demographic, 92 percent of Wii U purchasers said they bought Nintendo’s machine for their children. And, while 66 percent of Xbox One buyers also said the same, 50 percent of new PS4 adopters said they had purchased the system for themselves.

Year-on-year, PS4 saw a significant increase in sales, rising from 15 percent to the aforementioned 31 percent share.
