The PS4 came out on top as the top-performing home console in regards to software sales in the UK for 2020, according to new market data reported by GI.biz. A total of 39.6% of all games sold last year were sold on Sony‘s last-generation console, which is now entering its eighth year on the market.
If we’re looking at just boxed sales alone, the PS4 nabbed first place with 37.4%, followed by Nintendo Switch with 35.1%. On the digital front, PS4 took the lion’s share with a 41% market share, which is a pretty significant lead over the 26% share achieved by Xbox One.

Interestingly, a massive 67% of all games sold in the UK in 2020 were purchased via digital storefronts, such as PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE, Nintendo eShop and Steam. That’s not to say boxed sales didn’t do we either, as it grew 2% in comparison to 2019 with 18.2 million physical copies moved in 2020.
Earlier today it was reported that the PS5 was the second best-selling console in the UK for 2020, managing to beat the PS4.
