Electronic Arts’ Blake Jorgensen has said that the Xbox One is swiftly catching up to the PlayStation 4 in global sales.
While Sony’s next-generation system has gained a significant lead on its Microsoft rival in recent months—the console has sold over 13.5 million units worldwide to date—recent promotions and a $50 price drop has ensured Xbox One is firmly back in the race.
“Clearly Sony has jumped out to a lead with a great console and I think a great pricing strategy," Jorgensen stated at the UBS Global Technology Conference. However, he observed that, "Microsoft is catching up quickly.
"Pricing actions that are taking place, particularly within this Christmas season, driven by Microsoft around reductions plus a lot of bundled software, I think will continue to help pull the consumer into the new consoles."
Xbox One has shipped nearly 10 million consoles worldwide. Jorgensen believes the next-gen market installed base will hit “north of 25 million” after the Christmas break.
