Though we’ve heard far less issues of PS4 Pro’s getting too hot, with the temperature rising through intense gaming sessions, it is happening too. So, these tips to help cool your console apply no matter which PS4 version you own.

We’ve already given your some tips on how to make your PS4 quieter, but today we’re going to tell you the very best ways to keep it cool.

PS4 Overheating? Check Out Ways To Cool Your Console

1. Make sure your PS4 has room to breathe

Your PS4 needs the air around it to flow. If you’ve got your system cooped up in a small area, perhaps under your TV stand or too close to a wall, then it’s not getting the airflow it needs. Your console needs good ventilation, so keeping it in an enclosed cabinet doesn’t help either.

Though the PS4 comes with built in fans and in-take vents, but if there’s air able to come into those vents you risk your PS4 overheating. Try and leave as much space as you can around the sides, front and back of your PS4 so it can get the air it needs.

2. Clean your PS4

You’d be surprised how much dust can gather in the vents of your PS4. This muck gathers up over time and can be a cause of overheating. With your PS4 turned off and unplugged, remove the side cover of your PS4 and use one of the small hoover extensions (not a brush) to carefully suck up any dust that you see on the metal casing.

Then hoover around all the ventilation openings around the perimeter of your PS4, including USB ports. While you’ve got the hoover out, vacuum clean the area around your PS4!

It’s also worth purchasing a can of compressed air which you can spray on the fan and heatsink when you’ve removed the cover which keeps it nice and clean.

It’s definitely worth cleaning your PS4 regularly – at least once a month.

3. Invest in a PS4 fan

There are many PS4 cooling solutions available and by following this tip you’ll also keep your PS4 upright. It’s worth investing in a vertical stand with a PS4 cooling solution. Though there’s many different types available, including external fans, this PS4 and PS4 Slim vertical cooling stand with two controller charging ports has great reviews.

The dual cooling fans blow out a steady flow of air to prevent your PS4 from overheating. Plus it comes in handy for charging up your controllers too!

Should you keep your PS4 horizontal or vertical?

Though we’ve seen some recommendations suggesting that having your PS4 vertical keeps it cooler, we’ve seen no evidence that that’s the case. In fact, keeping it vertical means you’re covering up one of the in-take vents which can’t be good. So, whether you place your PS4 flat or vertical, the most important thing is to make sure that there’s good ventilation all around it.

It’s very likely that one or all of these methods will fix your PS4 overheating problems. But if you’re still getting issues it’s worth getting in touch with PlayStation Support to get another opinion.
