PS4 owners are ‘ready’ for PlayStation VR, says Sony

Every PlayStation 4 owner is ready to embrace virtual reality gaming, according to the director of Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation Magic Lab, Dr. Richard Marks.

Speaking at the Vision Summit 2016 (via VR Focus), Marks said that “all PS4 owners are ready for VR,” noting that aside from purchasing Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, consumers won’t have to invest in any other hardware to enjoy the tech.

This gives Sony’s upcoming headset the advantage over rivals such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, which require high-end PCs in order to enjoy VR gaming. Of course, Sony has yet to confirm a price for its own tech, though we expect to hear something soon enough.

According to earlier comments from the hardware manufacturer, PS VR will be positioned at a similar cost to a new games console. PlayStation VR is scheduled for release in the first half of 2016, and was originally known under the working title of ‘Project Morpheus.’

It was recently reported that Sony’s upcoming virtual reality device will launch in April, though nothing official has been confirmed at this point. The latest Internet rumors have pinned a $299 price tag on the headset, though again, this is all just speculation until Sony pipes up on the subject.
