Speaking during an interview with MMGM, The Order: 1886 developer Ready at Dawn has described PlayStation 4 as an historically ‘unique’ platform complemented by a number of ‘little details’ that make developing for it a fun experience.
Discussing the studio’s RED Engine 4.0 and how it feels working with Sony’s current-generation powerhouse, Ready at Dawn’s Garrett Foster commented:
"The PS4 is actually fairly unique, at least historically. It’s fairly known hardware, at least the big pieces are known. But it has all of these little details that are so fun to capitalise on that are really unique to it. The other really unique thing about it is that there is no real distraction about it, there are no graphic APIs to go through, there’s no OS stepping on our shoes.
So what that allows us to do is literally interact directly with the hardware. So when the game’s not running well, it’s our fault. There’s no complaining about it, or waiting for an SDK to be released. It’s our fault. It’s good and bad, but in some cases it’s a little bit more difficult to get things to their initial state but I think it’s a lot easier to get things to a final state on it, at least based on what I’ve experienced on other consoles."
The Order: 1886 is scheduled for release exclusively for PS4 on February 20, 2015. Check out this batch of brutal melee GIFs if you haven’t already.
