The latest PS4 sales data, from VGChartz, for 2014 shows the influence that Activision’s Destiny had on console sales on its release.
In September 2014, sales of PS4’s tripled to 1.75 million compared to the previous month, helping Sony on its way to an impressive year with lifetime sales of the console now sitting at around 18.5 million units.
VGChartz notes that 48.3 percent of PS4 sales in 2014 were accumulated between October and December with holiday sales reached 3.2 million units.
The biggest selling games on PS4 in 2014 were Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (5.8 million), FIFA 15 (5.65 million) and Grand Theft Auto V (5.41 million). Destiny reportedly sold 4.55 million copies.
VGChartz states that the total number of PS4 games sold in 2014 shows a “664 percent increase year-over-year;” not surprising when the PS4 was only released in the latter part of 2013.
