PS4 has proved there’s still life in the old dog yet, as Sony’s current-generation console surpasses nine million sales in Japan – and it reached the figure faster than the PS3 did.
PS4 Sales Going Strong In Japan
The new figure comes following the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is not only exclusive to PS4 for one year, but is a major title and a revamp of one of the most beloved JRPGs of all time. So, naturally, folk are going to flock to the console if they haven’t already done so.
Famitsu confirmed that PS4 sold 79,000 units in Japan this week, which takes its total in the country to 9.06 million. It’s tracking faster than PS3 during the same point in its lifecycle, too.
The PS4 was released in Japan much later than the US and UK, something which doesn’t traditionally happen. The west got the console in November 2013, but Japanese consumers had to wait until February 2014.
However, to make up for the delay, Sony chucked in a copy of Knack with the PS4 in Japan. In case you missed it, PS4 update 7.50 is out now, so go and download it.
