GamesIndustry.biz is claiming in a new article that a number of companies responsible for major online and live service titles are looking at ending PS4 support for their games down the line, following news that Genshin Impact is winding down support for Sony’s last-generation system.
The PS4 launched in 2013 so at this point it’s probably not too surprising that the 12-year-old console would be gradually phased out in terms of support for major online titles. While the GI.biz doesn’t name any specific games, it mentions “many other operators of major online and live service titles are also eyeing up the timeline for dropping PS4 support.”

In the wider scheme of things, there have been fewer PS4 versions of major franchise releases over the years in both first-party and third-party terms. For example, God of War Ragnarok, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Gran Turismo 7 were cross-generation releases, while Dead Space Remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and the upcoming Ghost of Yotei are PS5-only. Clearly, PS4 is slowly being phased out at least for big-name franchise entries.
