Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has released the latest system software update for PlayStation 4.
PS4 system update 4.06 now live, but doesn’t do much
The latest PS4 firmware update weighs in at approximately 312.3MB, so it’s not exactly going to be taxing on your hard drive. However, don’t get too excited about any major new additions; Sony’s confirmed the update merely “improves the quality of the system performance,” much like the last few patches.
You’ll need to download PS4 update 4.06 if you want to go online with PlayStation Network, so be sure to boot up your console and grab it as soon as possible.
Sony recently announced that its flagship gaming system has shipped over 47 million units worldwide since the console’s launch in November 2013. This year has proven a significant step forward for the PlayStation brand, with the launch of three new pieces of hardware in the shape of the PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro, and PlayStation VR.
While the PS4 may be ahead of the Xbox One in terms of overall sales, Microsoft’s machine has managed to boot Sony off the top of the hardware pile in terms of monthly U.S. sales for the past few months, thanks largely to the release of Xbox One S and Gears of War 4. However, it will be interesting to see how Sony’s fortunes change following the launch of PS4 Pro last week and how it will impact on PS4 sales going forward.
Next year looks set to be a pretty major year for PS4 releases, with the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, Persona 5, Resident Evil 7: biohazard, God of War, Mass Effect Andromeda, and more all due to hit the console in 2017.
