PS4 vs Xbox One sales in February 2017 – only one winner

The NPD Group has confirmed that PlayStation 4 was the top-selling videogames console for February 2017, marking the console’s fourth consecutive month at the top spot.

PS4 managed to fend off competition from the Xbox One for yet another month while also leaving the Wii U in the dust, although with the launch of Nintendo Switch earlier this month, things should be shaken up significantly going forward.

February was quite a big month for PS4 gamers, with the likes of Nioh and Horizon: Zero Dawn launching, although in the case of the latter, it was only on sale on the very last day of the month. In terms of competition, there was only the Xbox One-exclusive Halo Wars 2 to contend with, which is likely more of a niche title.

Sony announced earlier this year that its flagship gaming console had sold 53.4 million units worldwide, with software sales for PS4 surpassing the 400 million mark. The format holder had three major hardware launches last year in the shape of the PS4 Slim, PSVR, and PS4 Pro, all of which have helped solidify Sony’s lead in the current-generation hardware war.

2017 will see the release of a number of major titles for the PS4, including Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Crash Bandicoot NSane Trilogy, Gran Turismo Sport, Tekken 7, Ace Combat 7, and Mass Effect Andromeda.
