Website Think Broadband (via Stuff) has claimed that some of the larger digital PlayStation 4 titles could take U.K. consumers 50 hours or more to download.
Estimations are based on a game weighing in at 50GB – such the upcoming launch game Killzone: Shadow Fall – being downloaded with a 2Mbps connection, which will take around 55 hours.
Those of you with faster broadband speeds of 10Mbps can expect to wait around 11 hours for the game — significantly faster but still a bit of a wait compared to current-generation games.
This is all assuming that Sony is packing the server capacity to provide download speeds as fast as possible, notes Andrew Ferguson, editor at Think Broadband.
With digital goods becoming a major attraction in video game consoles, and an area that PS4 is fully set to embrace, it certainly doesn’t help matters that many areas in the U.K. still only have download speeds of less than 5Mbps.
One major advantage of downloading your games via PS4 however is the chance to play them before the entire file has finished downloading. So, even though you may have a long wait on your hands, you won’t be forced to sit twiddling your thumbs for the whole download to finish — you can take the game for a spin for a couple of levels while you wait.
