PS5 DualSense Back Button Attachment Patent Filed By Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a new patent for a PS5 DualSense back button attachment, suggesting the company is planning to upgrade the controller in the not-too-distant future with the feature. Previously, the DualShock 4 as outfitted with a back button attachment.

The patent reads as follows:

A controller add-on includes a housing that mechanically couples to a game controller body. A conformable surface of the housing is configured to conform with a bottom of the body of the game controller. A plurality of buttons coupled to the housing are located opposite the conformable surface. A controller interface coupled to the housing is configured to communicatively couple to the plurality of buttons to the game controller.

The back button attachment for the DualShock 4 was a welcome addition to the pad, which allows disabled users to more easily utilise the controller’s features, as well as making the buttons easier to reach for those with smaller hands.

It makes perfect sense that Sony would want to offer something similar for the DualSense going forward, so hopefully we’ll hear something official about this soon enough.
