Circana (previously The NPD Group) has revealed that the PS5 is tracking favourable when compared to previous iterations of PlayStation hardware in the US, despite having launched amidst a worldwide pandemic and suffering from major stock shortages.
Specifically, Sony’s flagship home console is trending 5% above the PS4 and 87% ahead of the PS3 in time aligned units sold life-to-date. This follows a report back in April from Circana, which reported that PS5 sales were tracking ahead of its predecessor on a time-aligned basis.
The PS5 has been enjoying a major surge in sales this summer thanks to the introduction of a limited time price cut by Sony. In Europe, sales of the console for July were up 244% year-on-year, while in the UK sales jumped 75% following the introduction of the price cut.
Sony announced during its latest financial briefing that the PS5 has now shipped 40 million units worldwide.
