The PS5 is expected to surpass the PS4‘s shipment record for the first three months of the calendar year, format holder Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed during its latest financial results.
Originally, the console maker expected PS5 to sell 18 million units by the end of the financial year in March 2023. However, Sony has now raised its predictions to 19 million, which means it is now looking to move an additional 6.2 million PS5s by the end of next month.
This is significant as it means PS5 would beat the PS4’s first three month sales record, which managed three million just after the console’s launch between January and March of 2014.
As previously reported, the PS5 has now shipped 32 million systems worldwide and the three-month period ended December 31, 2022 was its most profitable sales quarter yet. Crucially, the console has seen a surge in sales thanks to supply issues largely being over.
