Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed in its latest business segment that the PS5 has recorded more monthly players than the PS4 for the first time in the console’s lifecycle.
A side presentation clearly shows that Sony’s current-generation console has surpassed monthly active users over its predecessor, whereas in the same meeting a year prior, the slide revealed an even split between PS5 and PS4. Furthermore, the combined monthly total for both systems has reached 124 million, which marks a significant increase over the 97 million recorded last year.

Speaking during the presentation, Hideaki Nishino, CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, commented:
The PlayStation 5 offers the best way for players to experience our content, and as such, its player base has continued to grow. These players are highly engaged, spending more on content and services than in prior generations. However, the PlayStation 4 remains an important access point for existing players to experience our content and services, and we remain committed to serving them.
In the same meeting, Nishino-san touched base on its future plans in regard to PlayStation hardware, and while he wasn’t able to talk about the PS6 yet, did note that ‘the future of the platform is at the top of mind.’ He also acknowledged that fans are eager to learn more about Sony’s next-generation hardware plans.
