PS5 Reportedly Can Be Tricked To Accept 4K Signal On Some 1440p Displays

While the PS5 is not officially able to display a native 1440p for supported monitors, it’s recently emerged that Sony’s new console can be tricked into accepting a 4K signal on select devices.

That’s at least according to Twitter Axel, who connected a 1440p display with HDMI 2.0 to the PS5, with the console’s display info saying it is outputting a 4K resolution. This is then downsampled to the monitor’s resolution.

Sony confirmed prior to the US release of the PS5 that it does not support native 1440p, explaining the reason was due to the focus on supporting TVs rather than monitors. However, the company said that if there’s enough requests, the feature could be patched in at a later date.

It appears though that some monitors have a built-in downscaler that is able to fool the PS5 to accept a 4K signal from the device, which does somewhat offer a limited solution to the ‘official’ lack of support.

The PS5 hits the UK and Europe on November 19.
