Sony Addresses Lack Of PS5 1440p Support, But Hints It May Be Added In The Future

Sony’s senior vice president of platform planning and management Hideaki Nishino, has addressed the lack of PS5 1440p support in the new console, stating it’s about prioritising support for TVs more than anything else.

PS5 1440p Addressed By Sony

Speaking during a recent interview in Japan, Nishino-san acknowledged interest in having 1440p support for PS5, and suggested that it may yet be added if there’s enough requests.

Here’s a brief snippet of the interview:

The current PS5 does not support 1440p output, but this is based on the idea that “our priority is to support TVs” (Mr. Nishino). If there are a lot of requests for this, they will be able to support it at …… while keeping an eye on market trends.

Sony confirmed to IGN Japan last week that the PS5 does not support native 1440p, which those with compatible monitors will not get the desired experience.

The console launches in the US and Japan on November 12 and in the UK and Europe on November 19.
