PS5 Shipments Have Reached 75 Million Units Following Best Ever Holiday Period

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PS5 has shipped 75 million units worldwide, following its best holiday period to date.

The PS5 moved 9.5 million units during the three-month period ended December 31, 2024, which was the best quarter for the console to date and only 0.2 million behind the peak of PS4 in Q3 FY2017. Sony’s current-generation console is now just 1.5 million units behind the PS4 during the same period during its lifecycle, with 15.7 million units shipped during the first three quarters of its current year.

While the PS5 Pro was released during this period, Sony didn’t provide individual figures for the more powerful console, with the above figures including both PS5 and PS5 Pro. Meanwhile, operating income increased 37% year-on-year, reaching $766 million.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 during the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, and while it enjoyed a successful launch, stock shortages plagued the system for more than 18 months, resulting in scalpers taking advantage of the situation.
