PS5 Shipments Reach 84.2 Million Worldwide

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PS5 has shipped 84.2 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2020.

Speaking following the publication of its latest financial results overnight, the format holder revealed that the PS5 moved 3.9 million units during the three-month period ended September 30, 2025 — a figure that’s up 0.1 million over the same period last year.

In terms of software, the PS5 and PS4 sold a combined 80.3 million units during the same financial quarter, which is up 2.6 million units year-on-year. First-party games accounted for 6.3 million units of the total, with 72% of software sold being full game software digital downloads.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which resulted in a shortage of manufacturing components leading to stock shortages. While the console enjoy a successful launch, scalpers quickly took advantage of the situation by reselling new stock at exorbitant prices until the shortages finally subsided some 18 months ater.
