Update 07/10 17:58 – The French PlayStation Blog has now removed this bit of information. So, although we can’t officially say this feature will be available on PS5, it is likely the information is accurate and will simply be revealed at a later date.
Original Story – Sony has confirmed that PS5 Trophies will finally get a progress tracker, showing how close or far away you are to earning a specific trophy.
The news was revealed only in the French PlayStation Blog, which details the extra feature that wasn’t mentioned in any other blog posts. Using Google Translate, the text reveals that “you will be able to track your progress towards earning trophies for compatible PS5 games. For example, sometimes you’ll see how many artifacts you have left to collect, or how many armor upgrades you need to get before unlocking the trophy.”
The line mentioning “compatible PS5 games” does seem to suggest that this feature won’t be available for every game, such as if the developer doesn’t allow Sony to track trophy progress. But, we don’t know that for sure just yet. This feature was added to Xbox One quite a few years ago and on that console, you have to be online to earn achievements. So, we can only hope that this isn’t the case for PS5.
This bit of detail came alongside a pretty thorough revamping of the PS5 trophy system, with new level icons and a revamped calculation system. This progress tracker will only be available on PS5 and not added this week alongside these updates.
The PS5 releases on November 12, 2020, in the US and November 19, 2020, in the UK and EU.
