Original Story – Xbox format holder Microsoft has secured a two-year exclusivity period on Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, meaning the fancy technology will not be coming to PS4 and PS5 until 2023 at the earliest.
That’s at least according to a now-pulled statement on the official Xbox France blog, which reads:
Xbox Series X|S have been Dolby Atmos compatible since their release and Dolby Vision will arrive on these consoles sometime in 2021, with both technologies remaining exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem for two years.
Last month it was confirmed that Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision would be hitting Xbox Series X/S, but there was no word on when the tech would be coming to Sony’s latest hardware. However, with today’s news, we know that it won’t be happening anytime soon.
The PS5 was released in November 2020 and has shipped over 7.8 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2021.
