The PS6 has yet to be officially announced by Sony, must less have its price point confirmed, but respected hardware insider KeplerL2 has revealed in a post on X that they believe it could be around half the cost of Microsoft’s next Xbox system.
The comments came in wake of Xbox boss Sarah Bond confirming that Microsoft has plans for a “very premium, very high-end curated experience” in regards to its next home console. When asked about the price of PS6 compared to the new Xbox, the insider stated it’ll likely be a case of “$600 vs $1200 is my guess.” Pressed to explain the large difference in price, Kepler added: “42% more silicon, 20% more memory, higher board/cooling costs, plus they can’t subsidize the HW with 3rd party store support.”

There’s been a lot of chatter about the PS6 in recent months, despite nothing official having been confirmed yet. Recently, YouTube hardware expert Moore’s Law Is Dead stated that was in possession of a document that confirms Sony will begin manufacturing the PS6 around the middle of 2027, while KeplerL2 chimed in on a NeoGAF thread regarding Project Amethyst claiming Sony’s new console is targeting a launch the same year.
Project Amethyst is the partnership between Sony and AMD that looks set to define the technology of the PS6. Recently, Sony posted a new video that showcased PS5’s lead architect Mark Cerny and AMD’s Jack Huynh, where the pair discussed at length the various technological advancements that are being developed.
Towards the end of the video, Cerny said of these features that he’s “really excited about bringing them to a future insole in a few years time,” which is obviously the next-generation PlayStation console.
