PSP to cease shipping in Japan after June 2014

Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that shipments of the PlayStation Portable in Japan will cease at the end of June.

After this month, there will be no new shipments of Sony’s first dedicated gaming handheld in its home country, where it achieved better success than abroad. The PSP was available first in Japan on December 12, 2004, almost ten years ago, and has sold over 20 million units there. Worldwide, the system sold over 75 million units total.

For Japanese gamers, Sony is offering a trade-in program for PSP systems that can be used towards PlayStation Vita products.

Coincidentally, I just bought a PSP-3000 this past weekend after missing a number of games and wanting to play a handful of Japanese titles. Are you still rocking the PSP? Are there any PSP games you still play to this day? Let us know in the comments below.
