Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness heading west for PS4 & PS Vita this fall

NIS America announced it is bringing Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness to North America and Europe this fall for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, both physically and digitally. The Western release will have the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Developed by 5pb. (Steins;Gate, Corpse Party), Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness is a visual novel adventure based on the hit anime by Production I.G and set during its first six episodes on a remote island.

The game features an original story created by light novel Nitroplus with the original anime’s writer Gen Urobochi (Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero) providing the original plan and scenario supervision.

Players will encounter a new male protagonist and female protagonist along with a new enemy. Familiar faces from the anime’s Unit 1 police team of the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division will make an appearance.

Mandatory Happiness originally released first for the Xbox One in Japan on May 28, 2015 and had the optional ability to capture the player’s motion by using the Kinect sensor and SmartGlass smartphone app. The Xbox One version will not be coming West, however.

The PS4 and PS Vita versions will release this spring in Japan.

As shown at the end of the trailer, the game will also release for PC via Steam.

The original Psycho-Pass anime spans two TV seasons (streaming on Hulu and FUNimation) and a sequel movie, showing in select US theaters on March 15 and 16.

About the Story
In the near future, advanced technological developments have allowed one’s mental state and disposition to be quantified and profiled.

For the public’s welfare, all emotions and thoughts are documented and managed by the Sibyl System. This system measures the quality of each person’s life by what is known as the PsychoPass, a reading of an individual’s mind. Broken down into two main components, the PsychoPass is the system’s omniscient eyes of justice. One of these components is the Hue, which is a visual representation of the Psycho-Pass that conveys a person’s stress level. The other is the Crime Coefficient, which is a numerical value that represents a person’s criminal capacity. This number determines whether an individual requires enforcement by the detectives of the Public Safety Bureau. Detectives are divided into two groups: Enforcers, who are tasked with the investigation of crimes and the apprehension of criminals, and Inspectors, who are charged with managing the Enforcers.

About the Game
The player can choose between two new detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigation Department’s Division 1; Nadeshiko Kugatachi, a calm and serious Inspector whose memories were wiped, and Takuma Tsurugi, a hot-headed Enforcer who is searching for his missing childhood friend.

You must decide the best course of action for each given situation, but regardless of the hierarchy that separates Inspector from Enforcer, players must be mindful that every decision has its own repercussions. With an intricate decision-making system, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness offers a twisted plot and compelling cases, providing a number of different endings. Ultimately, depending on the choices made, Hues may deteriorate beyond recovery, cases may be left unsolved, and the game may end quicker than expected.
