The official Rainbow Six Siege Twitter account has confirmed that the upcoming Alpha Packs will be released for PlayStation 4 at some point next week.
Xbox One owners will be receiving the new content for the tactical shooter today, with PS4 following soon after pending the status of the Xbox One version of the Alpha Packs. No specific date has been given for the PS4 version as of yet.
Alpha Packs are a new loot drop system for Rainbow Six Siege, which will provide gamers with various cosmetic-based items. They also offer players a second chance to pick up limited-time skins, such as the Black Ice Weapon series. As time goes on, new loot will be added to the Alpha Packs to replace older gear, with over 1,000 items currently available.
Ubisoft recently launched Rainbow Six Siege update 2.1.1., which offered a wealth of bug fixes for the shooter as well as prepping the game for the aforementioned Alpha Packs.
Rainbow Six Siege was released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in December 2015, and focuses on team-based multiplayer gameplay with an emphasis on environmental destruction. Players engage in a number of scenarios, including hostage rescue and bomb disposal, as they follow a loose narrative that prepares the squad for an encounter against a deadly terrorist group known as the White Masks.
Originally, Ubisoft had planned to develop a new entry in the Rainbow Six franchise known as Rainbow Six: Patriots, which featured a hard-hitting narrative. However, the project was ultimately cancelled due to various technical issues, and so Siege was born in an effort to reboot the series.
