The CEO of Borderlands 4 developer Gearbox has responded to a series of negative online comments regarding the upcoming looter-shooter, warning “well’ll all pay the price” if people take the passion of developer’s for granted.
Randy Pitchford made the comments during an exchange with Gothalion, an influence and audience director for Midwest Games, who suggested that the Gearbox boss had muted a fan who raised some “very valid concerns (mild takes really)” about Borderlands 4.
His critique came from a place of love. As will mine. Please reconsider. Do better. Make a great Borderlands, and when your longest lasting biggest supporters give feedback and worries, especially respectfully, digest it gracefully.

Pitchford was having none of it however, and posted the following response on X:
I didn’t see any critique. I just saw shitty negativity that was demotivating. Want the best Borderlands? Root for us and cheer us on. If you take developer’s passion for granted, we’ll all pay the price. I love criticism and, thankfully, I have never been in short supply. Don’t gaslight me on his post. It wasn’t criticism. It was pessimism. It’s toxic for people killing themselves for your entertainment, so fuck that noise.
While on the subject of Borderlands 4, Pitchford previously described the upcoming sequel as the most open and free entry in the franchise to date, but stopped short of labelling it a true open-world game.
Borderlands 4 is slated for release on September 23, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
