Red Dead Redemption 2 beta invites turn out to be a hoax

Those of you who have been tempted by recent news of Red Dead Redemption 2 beta invites would do well to curb your enthusiasm, as they’re nothing more than elaborate hoax.

As reported by EGMNow, a Twitter account was recently set up to advertise beta invites for the upcoming Wild West adventure sequel, and it’s already garnered plenty of attention from eager gamers.

Unfortunately, the invites are completely fake. For starters, the typeface used for the promotion is identical to the one used in Destiny 2, while the source location for the page was discovered as Queens, New York. This is perhaps the biggest giveaway of the hoax, as Rockstar Games does not have any base of operations in this area.

Furthermore, the Grand Theft Auto developer is well known for its reluctance to run betas for its upcoming projects, so it’s highly unlikely they would suddenly introduce one for RDR2.

As such, take any information about an impending Red Dead Redemption 2 beta with a huge pinch of salt, as it’s most likely total fabrication.

Red Dead Redemption 2 release date set for spring 2018

Rockstar Games formally announced the Red Dead Redemption 2 release date back in fall 2016, with the game originally planned to ship at some point this year. However, the studio confirmed that the eagerly anticipated project had been pushed back to spring 2018 to allow for more development time.

Despite the delay, publisher Take-Two has said that it doesn’t think will ultimately matter in the grand scheme of things. Rumors have suggested that the delay was down to the fact Rockstar is pushing for Sony to include cross-play functionality in the title.
