Report: Jake Gyllenhaal to star in & produce Tom Clancy’s The Division movie

Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in and produce a live-action film based on the hit shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division, according to American movie magazine Variety’s sources.

The game’s publisher Ubisoft is still searching for a writer to pen the adaptation script and has not yet attached a Hollywood studio to the project.

Ubisoft seems comfortable with bringing their game franchises to the silver screen. Gyllenhaal previously starred in another Ubisoft video game movie, Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, back in 2010. Fox and New Regency’s Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender will release on December 21, while a Splinter Cell flick starring Tom Hardy is in-the-works over at Paramount Pictures.

Set in New York City, The Division finds players assuming the role of Strategic Homeland Division following an outbreak and must investigate the incident while restoring order to a dystopian metropolis. The online, third-person shooter became Ubisoft’s fastest-selling game to date.
