Resident Evil 2 Remake is now officially the highest-selling game in the franchise, with Capcom announcing the game has now sold 12.6 million copies since its launch in January 2019.
This puts the game behind only Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise as the third best-selling Capcom game of all time, which have sold 19 million and 13.2 million, respectively.
Resident Evil 2 Remake is a full reimagining of the 1998 survival horror classic, following Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they attempt to escape a zombie-infested racoon city. The game makes a number of changes to the original however, with various story beats altered and new locations included.
Unlike the original Resident Evil 2, this remake includes an over-the-shoulder perspective and fully 3D environments, replacing the pre-rendered backdrops of the 1998 version. Capcom also released free DLC in the form of the Ghost Survivors, which is a ‘what-if’ series of modes that allow players to control characters who died in the main story.
