Capcom was originally set to include a prologue chapter for Resident Evil 4 Remake that would have seen players control Ashley Graham.
Michael Kemp, a modder and content creator, has revealed a great deal about the missing chapter in a video on YouTube, where they stated that there are sufficient “leftover pieces” in the game’s files to stitch “chapter 0” back together and “get a rough idea of how it would have played out.”
Players did get a glimpse of this cut chapter in the story trailer released by Capcom in October 2022, and would have seen Ashley stranded the woods at night before encountering a ritual sacrifice being being conducted by the Los Illuminados. Kemp revealed that there are various “leftover spawn locations for scripted events” for the missing chapter, including one for a “Ganado who would begin walking around, and Ashley has to sneak past him.”
Resident Evil 4 Remake was released for PS5, PS4, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in March 2023, and is a full overhaul of the classic 2005 action-horror title directed by Shinji Mikami. The game sees Leon S. Kennedy, now working as a government agent six years after Raccoon City’s destruction, attempting to rescue the president’s daughter, Ashley, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious organisation in rural Europe.
The original Resident Evil 4 was released for the GameCube and later ported to numerous other platforms. The game is widely cited for revitalising the franchise and having a major influence on third-person shooters, and marked a big departure from the previous Resident Evil titles thanks to its use of an over-the-shoulder camera and focus on action.
