Speaking during an interview with GamingBolt, Kawata-san also bigged up Sony’s PlayStation VR headset as a great way of immersion yourself in Resident Evil 7. This is, of course, providing you can afford the extra hardware.

As long as the player’s wallet allows it, I think having the player play on the PS4 Pro really is the ideal environment someone wants to experience the game in,” he said. “On an additional note playing it on the PlayStation VR is also a great way to immerse yourself in the environment.”

Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game takes place four years after the events of its critically polarizing predecessor, Resident Evil 6, and sees players visiting the fictional town of Dulvey, Louisiana, as you explore a spooky plantation mansion as Ethan Winters, who is searching for his missing wife, Mia.

However, in typical Resi fashion, the brown stuff soon hits the fan as Ethan finds himself abducted by the malevolent and possibly cannibalistic Baker family, who stalk Winters throughout their sprawling estate. The game takes place from a first-person perspective and leverages Resi’s humble beginnings to invoke a classic survival horror gameplay experience, complete with item management, puzzle solving, and exploration.
