Capcom has officially announced Resident Evil 9: Requiem after years of rumours during Summer Game Fest 2025, confirming the highly anticipated survival horror title will arrive in February 2026 just ahead of the series’ 30th anniversary.

Capcom insider Dusk Golem had been drip-feeding various details on Resident Evil 9 for the past few years now, among which included details on a scrapped version of the game that would have featured an open-world and multiplayer elements. One of these earlier builds also included Jill Valentine as a main character alongside Leon, but Dusk made it clear recently that Jill was no longer playing a major role in the game.

The Resident Evil series first launched in March 1996 for the PSOne, and was followed by Resident Evil 2 (1998), Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999), and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica (2000). The original Resident Evil was remade in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, with Resident Evil Zero also arriving that same year. Resident Evil 4 followed in 2005 (with numerous spinoffs appearing in between the mainline titles) and was followed by Resident Evil 5 (2009), Resident Evil 6 (2012) and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017).
Capcom remade Resident Evil 2 in 2019 and also released full remakes of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 in 2020 and 2023, respectively, with Resident Evil Village – the latest mainline entry in the franchise – hitting consoles and PC in 2021.
