Capcom Jill Valentine News PS5 Resident Evil 9 Resident Evil 9 Leon

Resident Evil 9 Will Reportedly Star Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Rumours Debunked

Capcom’s as-yet unannounced Resident Evil 9 will feature returning hero Leon S. Kennedy as the main character, according to noted insider Dusk Golem (aka AestheticGamer) on X.

The tipster revealed that despite rumours pointing to a major role by Jill Valentine for the next chapter in the survival horror series, this isn’t the case at all, and it’s Leon will be taking centre stage again. Rumours had previously gathered pace that Jill would feature as a main character alongside Leon, which originated from an alleged playtest for the game that included numerous locations such as a hospital. However, according to Dusk Golem, this info is (unfortunately) not true.

Leon is 100% the main character of RE9, Jill doesn’t really play a role. Like maybe a file will reference her or something, but she is not a major character in the game at all. There’s other reasons that rumor is BS, but if you see any rumor claiming Jill has a starring role in RE9 for what the final game is turning out to be, then unfortunately it’s not true.

Jill hasn’t had a major role in a numbered Resident Evil game since 2009’s Resident Evil 5 (Resident Evil 3 Remake doesn’t advance the story, as it’s a retelling of an older title), although she did appear as one of two main protagonists in Resident Evil Revelations. While Resident Evil 9 hasn’t been revealed yet, we do know that Koshi Nakanishi, a veteran of the series and the director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will be helming the project.

Dusk Golem has provided quite a few tidbits about Resident Evil 9 in the past 18 months or so, previously stating that the game has the biggest budget in the series to date and that it will take place on an island in Southeast Asia.
