Resident Evil Director’s Cut Updated To Allow Switch To NTSC Version For Improved Performance

Capcom has quietly updated Resident Evil: Director’s Cut for PS Plus Premium subscribers to allow users to switch to the NTSC version of the game, allowing for an improved performance for those in PAL regions.

In case you’re not aware, the PAL version of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut runs at 50Hz just like the original PSOne version of the game released in those regions. By comparison, the US and Japanese versions of the survival horror classic run at 60Hz, offering a smoother experience without the black borders. This update allows users in PAL regions to switch to the NTSC version of RE: Director’s Cut; I own the UK and Japanese versions of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut on the PSOne, and believe me, you can tell the difference.

Resident Evil: Director’s Cut was originally released for the PlayStation back in Fall 1997, and offers three modes of play: Standard, Training, and Arrange. The first two are basically the original versions (think of Training as easy mode), while Arrange offers new camera angles, reshuffled enemy and item placements, new costumes, and a zombie version of Forest Speyer from Bravo Team. The game also included a playable demo of Resident Evil 2, allowing you to sample the first 15 or so minutes of the sequel.

Those of you who aren’t subscribed to PS Plus Premium can still get a copy of Resident Evil: Director’s Cut by purchasing it from the PlayStation Store.
