Speaking during an interview with Yahoo Japan, Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi has revealed the publisher has mapped out the next 10 years of Resident Evil, which will conclude the current phase of the long-running survival horror franchise.
Takeuchi-san noted that the Resident Evil narrative expanded with each new game, as it wasn’t planned out as a massive series from the beginning. Requiem represents the conclusion of a major phase, with the next one planned to run for another decade — after that, the franchise will continue.
The series’ story wasn’t planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game. When we were planning Resident Evil 2 [remake] and creating a 10-year branding concept, this was the most challenging aspect. If you play through all of them, I think you’ll realise the meaning behind the order of the remakes. With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years.
So, where do we go from here? Well, first of all there’s Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of 2000’s Resident Evil — CODE: Veronica, which is coming out in 2027 for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. There’s also a story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem in the works. Officially that’s all we know, but insider Dusk Golem has long stated that Resident Evil Zero Remake is up next, and there’s also the next mainline game in the pipeline alongside a second remake of the original Resident Evil.
