Roy Lee, the producer on Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil and known as the “man behind the brands,” has reportedly joined the Silent Hill movie reboot project.
Earlier this week it was claimed by Dead Central that the Silent Hill movie franchise was undergoing a ‘fresh start’ following the critical failure of Return to Silent Hill.
Lee’s involvement in the project comes via The Wall Street Journal, which features an extensive profile on him that mentions Silent Hill as one of the many projects Lee is currently has in the works. “Lee has around 20 movies and television shows based on games in development or production, including the fantasy epic God of War, action franchise Battlefield, and Japanese horror classic Silent Hill,” it reads.
For those unaware, Lee has served as an executive producer on a number of US adaptations of Asian horror classics, including Dark Water, The Eye, The Grudge, and the Ring, and has worked extensively on films based on licensed IPs. His work also includes The Lego Movie, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Doctor Sleep, Godzilla vs. Kong, A Minecraft Movie, It, and It: Chapter Two.
Meanwhile, Lee’s work on video game-related adaptations include the aforementioned Resident Evil, as well as the upcoming TV series based on God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn, and a movie based on Dragon’s Lair.
Christophe Gans was behind the original 2006 adaptation of Silent Hill, which was followed by Silent Hill Revelation in 2012 before Gans returned to helm this year’s Return to Silent Hill.
