Capcom has announced that its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Resident Evil 4-6 have drummed up some impressive figures since rolling out earlier this year, shipping over 1.5 million copies worldwide.
In addition, the Japanese publisher revealed that around one million of those shipments came from North America alone. The ports were released in reverse chronological order, with Resident Evil 6 arriving in March, Resident Evil 5 launching in June, and Resident Evil 4 rounding out the set in August.
“Capcom would like to thank all the fans that have celebrated the series’ 20th anniversary by playing these releases. We hope you all look forward to a new era of survival horror in the terrifyingly intense Resident Evil 7 biohazard when it hits on January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4 (with the included optional PlayStation VR Mode), Xbox One and Windows PC (Steam and Windows 10 Store),” said the company.
Resident Evil 7: biohazard looks set to redefine horror in early 2017
Capcom is currently developing the seventh numbered instalment in its venerated survival horror series, Resident Evil 7: biohazard, which is slated for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game is also fully playable with PlayStation VR from start to finish, a feature that will remain exclusive to Sony’s console for one year.
Resident Evil 7 takes place some years after the events of its predecessor, and is set from a first-person perspective. The game is set on a mysterious plantation mansion in Louisiana, U.S, with gamers controlling newcomer Ethan as he searches for his missing wife.
In addition to Resi 7, Capcom is also working on a full-fledged remake of 1998’s seminal Resident Evil 2, although nothing has been shown on the project as of yet. Perhaps we’ll get a glimpse at PSX in December?
