Insomniac Games has said it isn’t currently slated to work on a fourth core entry in the Resistance franchise, and hinted the studio may yet hand the celebrated series over to another developer.
That’s according to Resistance 3 director Marcus Smith, who told Gaming Union that he could ‘definitely see’ the franchise ending up in the hands of another high-calibre developer at some point down the line.
“I can definitely see that,” said Smith. “Nihilistic is already doing a [Resistance] Vita game, which is going to be awesome. We really respect those guys as game developers.”
“Sony Bend did Resistance Retribution on PSP. We’ve got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer. I’m sure Sony would want to find a high caliber developer to do a good offering. I don’t think they’d hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up.”
Smith noted that Insomniac Games is “not current slated to do a Resistance 4” after the launch of the hotly-anticipated third entry next month.
Resistance: Burning Skies, meanwhile, is due out around the same time as the launch of PlayStation Vita in early 2012.
