God of War Ragnarok has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics since the embargo dropped, although IGN Korea’s verdict didn’t agree with the masses. Instead, reviewer Bae Sang Hyun issued Sony Santa Monica Studio’s sequel a 6/10, and has received death threats as a result.
The ‘guest critic’ described God of War Ragnarok “a game that will lean on its predecessor and stops right in front of the door of misery.” He went on to criticise the “boring” nature of the Kratos and Atreus relationship during the story, and suggested the game feels more like God of War (2018) DLC instead of a proper sequel.
One of the messages that Hyun received regarding his score insulted his physical appearance, writing skills and nationality, with the individual saying he would “beat your a** and humble you so good that wouldnt [sic] even dare write this s***. imma kill you.”
In response, the writer posted a reply on a video on YouTube channel OhNoItsAlexx, where the host expressed criticism at “PlayStation fanboys” for their attacks on Hyun.
