Romero Games Confirms It Hasn’t Closed And Has Been Contacted By Publishers About Its Game

Romero Games has taken to social media to deny reports that the studio has closed, but has confirmed that the funding for its in-development project was pulled and the game cancelled as a result.

Reports emerged yesterday that Romero Games had been shuttered in wake of the latest batch of layoffs to hit Microsoft, with an anonymous staff member stating during an interview with The Journal that the developer had closed its doors. However, a new statement from the developer itself has confirmed this isn’t the case:

We want to address recent reports regarding the status of Romero Games. These reports have contained inaccuracies, and we feel it’s important to set the record straight. Romero Games is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that. Any suggestion otherwise is factually incorrect. Indeed, we were in the studio today to discuss next steps with the team.

The developer went on to confirm that it has been contacted by “several publishers interested in helping us bring the game across the finish line,” and as such is in the process of evaluating said opportunities.
