Rumor: Activision looking to acquire Take-Two

Internet murmurs this week are reporting that publishing giant Activision’s setting its sights on snapping up the house of Grand Theft Auto, Take-Two Interactive.

An anonymous senior games executive told MCV: "There are very strong rumours amongst people at a very senior level within the global business."

"But there’re not much more than that at the moment – they are just rumours. And, of course, given Activision’s news this week, everyone is now looking to see what their next move is. But you can definitely put two and two together and make four-ish."

Aside from GTA, Take-Two covers a host of triple-A franchises, including Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne and BioShock. Activision, of course, houses supreme money makers Call of Duty and World of Warcraft among others.

Still, this isn’t the only time Take-Two’s found itself being eyed up by industry behemoths. Back in 2008, Electronic Arts unsuccessfully attempted to acquire the publisher in a deal said to be worth an eye-watering $2 billion.

Activision’s had a bit of a tumultuous time of it as of late, with the company yesterday announcing the disintegration of its Guitar Hero business, as well as scrapping open-world sequel True Crime: Hong Kong.
