Jeff Grubb has claimed that Sony Interactive Entertainment will be hosting a new PlayStation Showcase before Summer Game Fest, which begins on June 8, 2023. This isn’t really a shocker, as with E3 now cancelled, Sony will want to have its own showcase to compete with whatever the competition has up its sleeves.
Sony has been hosting State of Play events for the past few years after COVID-19 put the kibosh on physical events. PlayStation Showcases are generally a lot bigger in scale, and essentially replace the press conference that the format holder used to hold at E3.
Speaking of E3, while that’s now been given the boot for this year (although it may not even return at all), Summer Game Fest has effectively replaced it anyway, as the show is packed full of game reveals and updates.
