According to a report on Variety, Sony Pictures is “closing in on a deal to develop a film franchise” based on Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed videogame series.
The trade paper claims that negotiations are in the final stages, and follows a recent bidding war for the film rights that has been unfolding for a number of months between various studios, including Sony and Universal.
The report further adds that Ubisoft will maintain creative control of the movie through its Motion Pictures division, which has been noted as a “key” point during discussions with Sony.
Ubisoft commented it has “no specific news to share at this time,” while Sony Pictures refused to issue any statement on the matter.
The latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, subtitled Revelations, will hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 18.
