Rumors have indicated that Sony’s next (also rumored) PlayStation Portable, PSP Go!, will have flash memory much like the iPod Touch or iPhone. According to PC World’s Game On, that’s incorrect. Their sources have claimed that the secret handheld device won’t use flash memory, but rather a new type of memory stick that was unveiled at CES 2009, the Memory Stick HG-Micro. This form of memory stick allows for a 60Mb/s transfer rate, which happens to be 40Mb/s faster than the current Pro Duo model.
"Think something like the Memory Stick HG-Micro," Game On’s Matt Peckham in reference to the PSP Go!’s memory, "with a 60MB/s transfer rate, approximately 40MB/s faster than original Memory Stick Duo."
While the idea of utilizing such a small form of memory storage is a neat idea, we’d ultimately prefer flash memory. Unfortunately, all of this is still speculation as no official facts have been laid out to the public yet. Just like many of our readers, we expect most of this information to come pouring out come E3 and Sony’s press conference. If anything happens to be leaked and confirmed ahead of schedule, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
