Rumour — First-Party Xbox Studio Was Working On A Fallout Game That Has Now Likely Been Cancelled

Jeff Gerstmann has claimed in the latest episode of his podcast that a Microsoft first-party studio was working on a Fallout project, but now believes the mystery title is no longer going to “see the light of day.”

The veteran games journalist didn’t go into much detail about the project, simply stating that a Fallout “thing” was in the pipeline at a Microsoft-owned studio. However, Gerstmann added that he believes the long-rumoured Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas remasters are likely being handled by an external studio, not an Xbox-owned outfit.

The Fallout 3 Remaster has been rumoured for some time now, with VGC stating last year that the project is one of the “other things” that Bethesda is working on, as mentioned by Todd Howard during an interview with GQ magazine. Earlier this year, Windows Central mentioned that a Fallout New Vegas Remake is also in the works alongside Fallout 3, and in regards to the latter, it said that it will be similar to what we saw with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Beyond that, Bethesda is also believed to be working on the next major instalment in the Fallout franchise, although that’s going to be a long way off at this point as it won’t show up until after The Elder Scrolls VI.
