Rumour — Sony Is Working On A New Handheld That Will Launch Alongside The PS6

Rumours that Sony is developing a new PlayStation handheld have kicked up a notch again, with a respected Xbox insider known as HeisenbergFX4 on NeoGAF has claimed that not only is the device in the pipeline, but it’s also being lined up to launch alongside the as-yet unannounced PS6.

Obviously we should take all this with a pinch of salt, but according to the leaker, “a full-blown PS handheld is coming,” while adding, “timing-wise somewhere around PS6 launch.”

As mentioned, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a new PlayStation handheld. Only last month, another leak stated that a new portable device is in the pipeline as part of Sony’s next-generation console plans. Not only that, but the new handheld will reportedly feature shader binary compatibility, which allows PS5 games to be played without developers having to apply any changes.

As previously reported, Sony and AMD have partnered for Project Amethyst, with the PS6 heavily rumoured to utilise the chip manufacturer’s 3D stacked chips.
