Variety has reported that DICE and Respawn are working on a new Star Wars Battlefront game, which comes in wake of news that publisher Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and closing down RPG legends BioWare.
A memo to staff from EA bigwigs revealed that Respawn and DICE are collaborating on a new project but didn’t name it. However, citing “multiple sources,” Variety stated that the game is indeed Star Wars Battlefront 3. The report comes just days after it was rumoured DICE and Bungie were being eyed by Disney to take the reins on a new Star Wars Battlefront game, a rumour that originated from a newly-published Electronic Gaming Monthly backed by Kickstarter.
However, Joe Brammer of Wardogs soon claimed on X that DICE and Respawn were the teams actually assigned to the new Star Wars Battlefront game, which now appears to be the case as far as Vareity’s sources are concerned.
There hasn’t been a new Star Wars Battlefront game since 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront II, which is the second entry in the rebooted franchise following the PS2-era games. Star Wars remains an important IP for EA in wake of its latest job cuts, with a new Star Wars Jedi game also in development.
