Respected leaker NateTheHate has claimed that the next chapter in the Metro series, Metro 2039, is set to be officially revealed this week, possibly at an unconfirmed Microsoft Xbox showcase on April 16.
Interestingly this is also the same date that NateTheHate claimed that Sony will host its new State of Play broadcast, although both events are unconfirmed at present.
While nothing official has been revealed about the new Metro game yet, we know that developer 4A Games is working on the next instalment in the series. Back in March last year, the studio revealed in a post celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Metro series that it is working on “the next Metro,” although noted that the Russian invasion of Ukraine had changed how the team wanted to tell the story of the new game.
We do want to reassure you that work is continuing on both of our projects despite missile strikes, air-raid sirens, and terror still raining down on Ukraine. These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title, it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it.
Metro Exodus is the latest mainline entry in the series, which launched for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in February 2019. The game was later released for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in May 2021 as Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. You can read our review of the PS5 version here.
